History

1991

American School Foundation of Chiapas A.C. is born as a multicultural, creative and bilingual educational institute. Starting with summer courses and day care in its beginnings in the city of Tuxtla Gutierrez, ASFC quickly grew its educational programs due to the lack of another school with an international curriculum and global connections in the city.

1995

ASFC becomes part of SEP (Secretaría de Educación Pública) as Fundación Escolar Americana de Chiapas

1997

ASFC becomes a candidate member of SACS (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools)

1999

The new facilities for Day Care, Kinder and Primary school open at Boulevard Belisario Dominguez 5580-F

2003

The new building hosting middle school students opens, with the launch of a Physics and Chemistry lab

2007

Opening of High School programs as part of the Science and Humanity School of UNAM (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México), offering students arts, humanities and science subjects with international curriculum and global teaching practices. Students learn to learn, learn to do and learn to be.

 

2009

Creation of the DAGO (Daniel Goleman) Library, which hosts classes to help forge in students a passion for reading. Lessons are in English and Spanish for all students from Day Care to High School, complying with UNAM’s required heritage.

2014

American School Foundation of Chiapas becomes an IB (International Baccalaureate) World School, thanks to the creation  of a transdisciplinary curriculum based on concepts and focused on developing the abilities and attributes of the PYP (Primary Years Program)

 

2015

Completion of the construction of Sky Garden, an elevated, multifunction 900m2 structure. One of a kind in an educational setting, this space promotes sustainable farming practices, developing in our new generations a consciousness for the economic, social and moral impact of their actions on our planet.

2016

With 25 years of history, ASFC continues to be a space for innovation for the all-round development of our students with first class athletic, academic and art facilities.

2018

Central Station opens, a functional and modern reception area that hosts all school services under one roof.

2019

ASFC signs the first partnership agreement with an American institution, Utah State University, which will be followed by Dallas Baptist University and Arkansas State University later in the year.

2020

ASFC becomes the first SAT test centre in Chiapas. Members of the wider community can now take the exam for entry onto US Colleges without having to travel outside the state.

2021

ASFC achieves the prestigious international COGNIA accreditation, focused on continuous improvement and student mobility. ASFC graduates will now hold a diploma recognized internationally and validated by the US Supreme Court.
